JUSTICE FOR FOSTER YOUTH at LAST

(Lawyers Assisting Successful Transition)

LEGAL HEALTH CHECK UP

Free legal consultation for young adults 18-25 who spent time in foster care. It is designed to provide legal advice and ascertain unmet legal needs for this vulnerable population.

Florida's Children First provides a detailed questionnaire, instructions, training (available on the web) and attorney support.

The total time for training and performing a Legal Health Check Up will take less than 5 hours. You decide whether you will provide any additional advice or representation after the initial meeting.

Depending on the circumstances this could be a short or very long term commitment. We will confer with you about the client's known issues before asking you to accept representation.

Email JFFY@floridaschildrenfirst.org or call 904 790-0436.

FLORIDA ATTORNEYS SAVING HOMES

If you're an attorney interested in volunteering with this important project, click here.

In a massive effort to assist Floridians in their fight against the foreclosure crisis that has Florida ranked at number two in the nation, The Florida Bar, Florida Legal Services and the Real Estate Probate and Trust Lawyers Section (RPPTL) of the Florida Bar have united in an effort to do battle to save Florida's homeowners.

Homeowners who are not in foreclosure, but fear the possibility, are urged to call the statewide Hotline or complete the intake form on the Florida Bar website. The volunteer attorney will work to negotiate with the Lender on behalf of the client with the hope of creating a loan that allows the client to remain in the home and avoidforeclosure - a win-win situation for all involved.

PRO BONO OPPORTUNITY

Help Support Persons With Disabilities

In 2007 the Legislature eliminated some services it provided to Florida's disabled population and imposed strict new caps on other services. In 2008 it it required the assignment of people to programs with monetary caps which are insufficient to meet their health and safety needs.

Until recently, individuals who wanted to challenge the denial of benefits or reducation of these services could tell their stories in informal agency hearings. Now the cases go before a judge in the Dept. of Administrative Hearings - DOAH.

We will provide training and access to training materials. If you sign up to takea case you will also be covered by malpractice insurance through Florida Legal Services, Inc. Please visit the site LIBRARY to view the folder with training materials.

To sign up as a volunteer attorney, please click here to submit your information to Sheila Meehan.
