  • Organization: Bay Area Legal Services, Inc.

The March 28, 2009 Race to the Courthouse, held in conjunction with the Hillsborough County Bar Association Judicial Pig Roast and chaired by Judge Ashley Moody of the 13th Judicial Circuit, was a great success. Nearly 150 members of the Hillsborough County legal community participated in this fun and worthwhile event, which benefited pro bono legal services in the Hillsborough County.

The Race had a large impact on pro bono donation in our county. Many of the race participants donated pro bono hours as a condition of their participation. A total of 116 pro bono hours were donated.

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of the pro bono hours donated through the inaugural Race to the Courthouse,” said Susan Sandler, Attorney at Law, Pro Bono Manager for the Bay Area Volunteer Lawyers Program. “The Race brought 16 new volunteers to our program and 116 hours of pro bono service.”

Colette K. Black, attorney with Bay Area Legal Services, will chair the 2010 Race to the Courthouse. Volunteers to help with the 2010 event are being solicited. You may contact Ms. Black at (813) 232-1222.

Please save the date of March 20, 2010, for the Race to the Courthouse. We look forward to seeing you on the racecourse!
