TALLAHASSEE -- Orlando attorney Lawrence H. Kolin was selected to receive The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Legal Aid Public Service Award for his contributions to those in need of free legal services. The award will be presented to Kolin by Young Lawyers Division President Elizabeth Gicella Rice at the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday, March 14.
The award was instituted in 1991 by the Young Lawyers Division and is presented in conjunction with the Supreme Court of Florida and The Florida Bar’s Pro Bono Awards. Generally, pro bono refers to legal services provided free of charge to those who cannot pay for them. The term "pro bono," derived from the Latin phrase "pro bono publico," means "for the good of the public."
Kolin has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1994. He has served as a pro bono Guardian ad Litem (GAL) since 1995, and has been appointed GAL to several multi-sibling families. Kolin has also been an Orange County Teen Court Judge and Advisor. He received a Special Award of the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association for his efforts in April 1997.
Kolin received his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami in 1994. He practices in all areas of professional liability with an emphasis on medical malpractice, premises liability, as well as entertainment and intellectual property litigation. Kolin is a member of the American Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, and the American Inns of Court. He is also a Certified Mediator.
